legal scholar dies in London Civil rights worker committed to cause BROWNE, Beverly Beverly (Bev) Watkinson Browne, 80, passed away, Saturday, February 9th at his residence in Atlanta, Georgia. Bev was born on December 22, 1932 in Franklin, Virginia to Winston and Alma Browne. He graduated Franklin High School in 1950, the Woodbury Forest School in 1952 and the University of Virginia in 1956. After UVA, Bev became an Artillery Officer for the First Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.

Upon completion of his service, Bev entered the Paper Industry. He lived and traveled all over the country with several different organizations. In 1979, he took a position as President of Diameter Paper Company in Atlanta, where he retired in 2005. Growing up on a farm in rural Southeastern Virginia, Bev loved the outdoors and excelled in sports. Throughout his life he could just as easily be found hunting Quail or Duck as playing tennis or golf.

However, after retirement, Bev, on most days, could be found on the golf course. Bev is survived by his Wife Elizabeth Browne, Sons Jud-son and David Browne, Grand Children Jackson and Peyton Browne, Brother Winston Browne and Sister Alma O'Hara. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday the 16th of February. Flowers may be sent to Canterbury Court, 3750 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta GA 30319 in care of Beverly Browne. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation of Georgia.

which was close to the SCLC and the hub of many movement activities. "Every major march from 1968 on in Atlanta, Frederick was there," said Dexter Wimbish, a former attorney for the SCLC. "He was even with us more recently in Gwinnett County when we marched to bring awareness of the unknown effects of Tas-ers. He's just always been there." Worrell said he doesn't think Moore ever considered doing anything else as a career. "I think his joy was in the movement and it wasn't a job at SCLC.

It was a service," said Worrell. "See, on a job, you work and you know how much you are going to get paid. In a service, you might get a stipend one week and a promise the next. You only do work like that when you feel the way about it that he felt about the movement and the SCLC." In addition to his daughter, Moore is survived by daughters, Veda Mapp of Lithonia, Takenya Smith of Siloam; a son, Larry Moore, of Oglethorpe; sisters, Karen Moore of Cincinnati and Henrietta and Pamela Moore, both of Crawfordville; brothers, Michael Moore, James Moore and Mark Moore, all of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren. who were lucky enough to know him and by the countless people who followed and admired his work," Revesz said.

Dworkin was best known for the idea that the most important virtue the law can display is integrity understood as the moral idea that the state should act on principle so each member of the community is treated as an equal. A frequent contributor to the New York Review of Books, Dworkin's own works included "A Matter of Principle," "Law's Empire," and "Justice for Hedgehogs." He argued in his writings that acting with dignity and moral clarity could make life worthwhile. "If we manage to live a good life well, we create something more," he wrote. "We write a subscript to our mortality. We make our lives tiny diamonds in the cosmic sands." AMICA, Rosie Funeral Service for Ms.

His family said Dworkin died of leukemia in London early Thursday.

Dworkin was a professor of law at New York University and emeritus professor at University College London. He was one of the best known and most quoted legal scholars in the U.S. and also an expert on British law. NYU Law School Dean Richard Revesz said Dworkin was "not only an intellectual giant, but also a masterful teacher, admired colleague and beloved friend." He called Dworkin the most important legal philosopher of his generation. A funeral is planned for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Eb-enezer Baptist Church, Atlanta. Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home, Historic West End Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. In 1966, Moore was one of a handful of black students who were allowed to attend the previously all-white high school in Crawfordville, not quite 60 mile west of Augusta.

One day, he heard Williams speak and the Atlanta activist took him under his wing, said Moore's daughter, Velisa Thonrton. "When he got a chance to see up close what Hosea Williams and Dr. King were doing, I think it sparked something in him," she said. "He knew he wanted to do that work too." Moore left high school and moved to Atlanta so he could join in the work being done by the SCLC office. y- By Michelle E. Shaw mshawajc.com As a teenager, Frederick Moore was so inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther Kingjr. and Hosea Williams that he left his Crawfordville home and moved to Atlanta to join the civil rights movement. And he didn't just join.

Moore made a career out of the movement, friends and family said. He took a job with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1968 and never looked back. "It was the only job he ever had," said Ralph Worrell, one of Moore's closest friends and a coworker at the SCLC. "And he was there for more than 40 years." Moore and Worrell worked within the movement during the same time, often traveling to cities or states where they were not welcome. Their friendship over the years kept them in daily contact, when they would reminisce about the past and speculate about the future.

"We talked all of the time," Worrell said. "Generally when we talked over the phone, at the end we'd say, 'Check you But Friday, all he said to me was, 'I'll see And he hung up."
