What Is Read Your Way To Fenway?

Read Your Way To Fenway is a collaboration between the Boston Public Library and The Red Sox Foundation. You can win three tickets to check out the Sox take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, August 25th at 1:35pm. It’s open to kids and teens ages 5 – 17.

All they have to do is read 3 books, and write a short essay about one of them. They’ll fill out an application and can submit it to any Boston Public Library location. You have from now until August 2nd at 5pm. You can only enter once.

What Can I Read And What Do I Write About?

Read whatever you like! It can be a picture book, chapter book, graphic novel, magazine, or nonfiction book. Anything and everything counts. And yes, audiobooks count too. And if you need some help deciding what to read, the Boston Public Library has lots of suggestions for Summer Reading.

Once you’ve read your books, it’s time to get writing. According to the application, some of the things to think about when writing your essay are: What would you tell a friend about this book? Did you love it or hate it? Why? They also say that it’s ok if you get help with your essay, but just be sure not to copy someone else’s words or use AI to use your entry.

So get reading and writing and winning! Read Your Way To Fenway, a great way to spend your summer!

9 Essential Things You Need to Know Before Going to a Red Sox Game

  • Parking can be very pricey, here's where to park

Parking around Fenway can be very pricey and very tricky. According to the Red Sox website, there are Official Parking Lots of the Boston Red Sox
Prudential Center Garage. Entrances at 800 Boylston St., 111 Huntington Ave., 35 Dalton Street, Ring Road; 3,000 spaces. You can get a $20 discounted rate by scanning a same-day Red Sox ticket (digital or printed) at the exit machine when leaving the garage. But if you want to try any lot around Fenway, you’re looking at a minimum of $40 and upwards of $58 to park.

  • Learn the lyrics to Sweet Caroline

Sweet Caroline was first played at Fenway Park in1997 after a Red Sox employee in charge of music at the park played the song as a tribute to a friend who had given birth to a baby named Caroline. It’s become a tradition ever since. It is played each home game before the bottom of the eighth inning. So learn it!

  • Try NOT to bring a bag or purse

The bag policy at Fenway Park is pretty strict. You will be asked to store your bag in a third party locker for a fee if your bag is bigger than the requirements. Bags must be single-compartment and no larger than 12″x12″x6″. Backpacks, backpack-style purses, duffel bags, and other multi-compartment bags are NOT permitted.

  • Check the weather before you leave and DRESS for the occasion

No matter what the weather report says, it is always chillier inside Fenway Park than it is in the real world. According to Facebook user Anna Inch: “Definitely bring a blanket. Or an extra jacket. It doesn’t matter what the forecast says, that’s not what it feels like.”
