Was Gnostics capitalized? The Gnostics were an ancient branch of Christians and Jews. They believed in mystical knowledge and ceremonies that could bestow power and understanding on the people who practiced Gnosticism. "Impulse of the Gnostics" is talking about the driving force or cause provided by the spectacle mentioned in the sentence.

@Amin40 No, I have not read this book, but I have read other things about mysticism. I believe "impulse" refers to the reason or driving force why people started to seek answers. The quote mentions a spectacle. Something happened that people observed, and seeing this spectacle caused them to wonder more about the unseen power in the world (Allah or God). Impulse means here a drive or motivation that led to questioning and investigation. That is my opinion, anyway.

@MetRon You are welcome. By reading the book you will gain good information about Islamic mysticism but for understanding the book much better, I think it would be better if you read the book of Man and Universe the first and then you will start reading the book of light within me.
